NEWPORT BEACH, CA − Castaways Park provides a scenic path overlooking Newport Back Bay. This small park provides pedestrians, cyclists and leashed dogs with wide paths to enjoy and take in the great views overlooking Newport Back Bay.
The park has paved and unpaved paths providing about a half-mile loop. However, people jogging, pedaling, pushing strollers or walking dogs can continue along a paved path along the bluffs lined with homes on one side and views of the bay on the other side.
A parking lot with free parking is provided at the entrance to the park. There are poop bag dispensers and trash cans located at the park entrance and in the park. A couple benches can be found in the park to sit and rest. At the lookout point is a veteran’s memorial statue.
The paths are currently lined with 1,776 American flags in honor of the people who have served in our military. A beautiful display of flags blowing in the breeze with photos of those who served for our country.
The flags were erected on Armed Forces Day and will remain through Memorial Day with a dedication ceremony at noon on May 28. The program, called The Field of Honor, is provided by The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor. The program started 8 years ago and has become an annual tradition.
Castaways Park is located at 700 Dover Drive, Newport Beach, California. More information about The Field of Honor can be found online at newportbeachfieldofhonor.com.
